Friday evening I attended an event with Kat Von D at their store in Debenhams, Cardiff. Kat Von D launched in Debenhams this month across the UK and Cardiff have one of the biggest counters. The ladies at Kat Von D put on a makeup masterclass to teach us how to get more creative with our makeup.
Kat Von D Makeup Master Class
The makeup look started with a fresh base using minimal Lock-It setting powder to create a dewy finish. Next up was a light contour using the Shade & Light Face Contour Palette. Whilst the makeup look was happening we got to swatch the palette. I absolutely love the consistency of this palette. The powder has a very creamy finish making it easy to blend and work into the skin. I totally bought into the hype and ended up purchasing one for myself.
Next up was a very creative bold eye look using a combination of 3 Kat Von D liquid lipsticks. Liquid lipsticks as eye makeup you say!? I was shocked too! Considering the consistency of liquid lipstick I wasn’t sure how it would be possible to blend out. My fears were soon put to rest.
To finish the eye look the makeup artist used the shimmering shades from the limited edition Alchemist Holographic palette. Oh My Word! The shades in this palette are absolutely stunning. I’m a bit of a magpie when it comes to holographic and iridescent shades. and these tick all the boxes. The colours can also be layered to create even more stunning shades than the four included in the palette.
To finish the look the makeup artist created an almost feathered lipstick look. This is something I haven’t seen done before and gives the lips a much softer appearance. By using a small brush to apply the lipstick along the lip line this disperses the colour onto the edges of the skin to create a blurred effect. The makeup artist then used the Alchemist Palette at the center of the lips to create a gorgeous light shimmer.
The Finished Look
The finished look was bold and eye catching. It definitely inspired me to get more creative. Maybe not for day to day wear but I’d love to get more experimental with makeup.
