Review | My Honest Opinion of Benefit They’re Real Double the Lip & They’re Real Duo Eyeshadow Blender

Benefit They're Real Double the Lip and Duo Eyeshadow Blender

Benefit’s product launches always create a buzz. This year we are in for a few treats as Benefit have lots of new products in the pipeline. Benefit have already launched two new product types to the ‘They’re Real’ range. Here’s what I really think of Benefit’s two newest products, They’re Real Double the Lip and They’re Real Duo Eyeshadow Blender.

Benefit invited us to their counter at Boots in Talbot Green Retail Park in Llantrisant to see the new ‘They’re Real’ products the night before their release. Benefit is a brand I adore and I always get my eyebrows done with them. Knowing the brand and their previous releases I was super excited to see what the new products were all about.

For me the Benefit ‘They’re Real’ collection is home to two big Benefit staples. The first being the They’re Real Mascara and the second being the They’re Real Push Up Liner. I have used both products before and have really loved using them as they provide easy application. The two new product types joining the They’re Real collection I feel were both made with time saving in mind.

Benefit They’re Real Double The Lip

The first product to join the collection is the They’re Real Double the Lip. The product promises ‘fuller looking lips in one easy stroke’. The lipstick is designed in a teardrop shape that is split in half. One side of the stick acts as the darker coloured liner and the other half acts as the lipstick colour base. By having both the lip liner colour and lipstick colour on one stick it is aimed to cut down the time it would take to apply two separate products.

We were shown how to apply the Double the Lip and I noticed that it took a lot of going over to get the colour pay off on the lips.  Having to go over the lips so many times meant that the colour that should have been the lip liner had merged with the lipstick base colour creating more of an ombre effect. For me this product is a complete no as it doesn’t do what it says on the tin. The liner colour of the product is far too thick and doesn’t produce that thin enhanced line that a lip liner should.

Honest Opinion of They're Real Duo Eyeshadow Blender

Benefit They’re Real Duo Eyeshadow Blender

The They’re Real Duo Eyeshadow Blender is available in 8 different shades and ensures an ‘expert eyeshadow application every time’. To apply the product you simply swipe the sponge blender a recommended three times back and forth across the colour and then swipe along the eyelid starting from the inner corner and swiping outwards.

The Benefit ladies demonstrated the product and once again the colour pay off wasn’t great, especially with the lighter colours. Having to swipe back and forth across the eyelid multiple times meant the separate colours had merged into one. This is definitely not the shortcut to get that beautiful blended eyeshadow. I also don’t think the sponge is the right product to apply the eyeshadow as it isn’t narrow enough to get into the very corner of the eye and therefore leaves a gap of the eyelid without any colour at all. To me it just looked messy and the final look wasn’t very flattering.

My Brutally Honest Opinion

Overall I think both of the products are extremely gimmicky. I feel Benefit tried to do something different but it hasn’t paid off. I also feel the price of the products is far too high. Benefit’s Double the Lip is priced at £16.50 and the Duo Eyeshadow Blender is £19.50! Both products look like something you would find in a Sabrina The Teenage Witch magazine.

I’m certainly not one to slate a brand and especially not a brand that I truly love but when they bring out products that look like they came from a 90’s teen magazine then I’ve got to be whole heartedly honest about them, especially if you are considering purchasing them. If you are on hunt for some streak free lip liners or beautifully pigmented eyeshadows then I have linked some of my absolute favourites down below.

I’ve seen these and just didn’t understand how they were mean’t to work, especially the eyeshadow as the blender looks so big and everyone has such different shaped eyes! I definitely agree its more of a gimmick which is a shame x
