It’s already halfway through January and everyone is getting stuck into their New Year’s Resolutions. I’m all about the New Year, New Me at the moment and I’m ready to take anything on. I’ve been challenged to step out of my comfort zone and to try something new so I’ve added another resolution to my list.
Trying Something New
I’ve been challenged to try something a little out of my comfort zone and that is to watch a wider variety of films. Currently I meet every Thursday with the girls to watch a horror film, I also love watching comedies and I’ll watch anything directed by Tim Burton or Christopher Nolan. Other than that my film knowledge is pretty limited and having taken film studies as an option at college I’m a little ashamed that I’m not the true film buff I claim to be.
I have kindly been sent a bundle of films to start me off on my journey of being the ultimate movie guru and they include The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Colour Purple, Gone with the Wind, Dial M for Murder and The Towering Inferno.
I have already seen the Curious Case of Benjamin Button and it is a phenomenal film and one I have watched a few times now so I’m hoping the others will be on a similar scale. When it comes to choosing films unfortunately I judge the film on the DVD cover (I do the same with books) and if it looks ‘old’ or ‘dated’ then I’m very unlikely to reach for it and give it a go.
The Colour Purple
I’ve definitely heard the film title before but other than that I don’t really know much about it. Yikes now I’m noticing it’s been directed by Spielberg and I feel a bit ashamed I don’t know more about it. From reading the plot it’s definitely one of those films that you need to really sit down and pay attention to whilst watching it but I’m looking forward to giving this a go. It’s also been adapted into a musical which I had no idea about and I now I feel even more embarrassed that I didn’t know any of this!
Gone with the Wind
Now this is a film I’ve definitely heard about before but I’ve never sat down and watched it purely because of the era it was released. I think everyone knows the famous quote from the film but like myself probably haven’t watched it. I’m not overly enthusiastic about the plot as it’s not really the type of genre I enjoy but I will give it a go.
Dial M for Murder
Now this I like the sound of, the plot sounds really interesting and I’m already a huge fan of the genre so I’m hoping it lives up to it’s dramatic title. I’m actually surprised I haven’t seen this before as it sounds right up my street, I’m really looking forward to giving this a watch.
The Towering Inferno
I do love a good disaster movie and this one sounds haunting. The only famous name I really recognise on the cast list is Fred Astaire and I never would have put him as being in this type of film so now I’m intrigued to see what it’s all about. The plot sounds really interesting so I’m hoping the film will be good.
Have you pushed yourself to try something new this year? Let me know what it is in the comments. Also if you’ve seen any of these films let me know which one is your favourite.
