7 Easy Steps to Girl Boss 2017

7 Easy Steps to Girl Boss 2017

It is that time of year again. The new year new me statuses will be out in force and I’ll be sat considering my life choices and wondering if I’ll actually stick at my New Year’s resolutions this time around. I really, really am going to try my best to boss all my goals this year and after many failed attempts I’m hoping I have the recipe for success now sorted. If you want to girl boss your way through 2017 here are my 7 easy steps to help you achieve your goals.

1. Write it down

It’s amazing how much motivation a new notebook and pens can give you. Treat yourself to some new stationery and spend a good hour or two writing down all your aspirations for 2017. I’m going to dedicate some time to sit in front of the fire with some treats and a good film and get stuck into planning 2017. I’m going to dedicate an entire notebook to my Girl Boss plan and include motivational quotes, a rewards system (which I’ll talk about later) and photos to motivate me.

2. Make it Detailed

You can make your list of goals as long or as short as you want but make sure to include lots of detail about each individual goal.

For example, my first goal is to be more consistent with my blog. I can give this more detail by setting myself a target of having at least 3 posts scheduled for each week.

By having clear cut detailed goals it makes it easier for you to see when you are on target and when you need to work a little harder.

3. Take it Slow

Don’t suddenly think you have to take on every goal you have set yourself from the 1st of January. This is often why people don’t stick them out because they take too much on from day one. Try staggering your goals and introduce a new goal at the beginning of each new month.
For example, if your goals were to write 3 new blog posts a week, schedule tweets for every day and post daily to Instagram that is quite a lot to suddenly start doing in January. It might work out for a while but once the holidays are over and you are back in work it’s something that would be quite hard to keep up. Take some time to work out a schedule and then introduce other aspects of your goals as you feel more confident with your routine.

4. Keep it Updated

If something in your goals really isn’t working out and seems too hard to maintain, adapt it. Don’t stress yourself out! Just amend it slightly to fit better with your life right now. You can always change it back to your original goal later in the year. If I find myself struggling to produce 3 blog posts a week I would rather just drop it to 2 and continue to blog than deem myself a failure and give it all up.

5. Make it enjoyable

If you utterly hate what you are trying to make a goal then why are you doing it? Trying to make yourself do something you despise really isn’t going to help. One of my New Year’s goals is to lose 1 stone. I know for a fact I hate the gym. There is no way I’m going to make going to fitness classes a resolution. Instead I’m going to do workouts at home and follow youtube video classes instead, I’m going to take the dog on long walks and I’m going to restrict myself to 1 takeaway a month. This is going to be far easier for me to stick to and will be something I will enjoy far more than attending the gym.

6. Share it with a Friend

You are more likely to stick to your goals if you share them with a friend. Why not rope all your friends in and tell them to create a notebook with their 2017 aspirations. Another way to hold yourself accountable is to write about it on social media or your blog if you have one. By sharing it with the world and keeping everyone updated you are more likely to stick to it. If you see anyone posting about New Years resolutions then give them support and motivation and show that you are rooting for them.

7. Reward Yourself

Bossed one of your goals already? You deserve a treat! Always reward yourself when you have worked hard. I like to create myself a rewards system so that each goal completed matches up with a reward. The reward can be anything from treating yourself to a new lush bath bomb to going out to the cinema.
For example, if I manage to create 3 blog posts a week throughout January I would treat myself to a new disney dvd. If I manage to carry on the goal throughout February I’ll treat myself again but to a new face mask. If I have absolutely smashed my goal and done 3 blog posts a week for the whole of 2017 I’m off to Disneyland! (Joke!) But seriously, the rewards can be anything you want them to be. Stick to the system though and don’t treat yourself unless you really do complete your targets.

I hope you’ve found this post helpful and that it has motivated you to make 2017 your year! Let me know in the comments what you want your main New Years resolution to be.
