I’m definitely not new to beauty treatments and have had all sorts done over the years but one beauty treatment I had never tried was eyelash extensions. (Spoiler Alert – I am never getting them done again!)
Two beauty treatments I have on a monthly basis are a brow wax and tint and gelish nails, so when I was at my local beauty therapists I decided that seeing as I was going on holiday the next week I wanted to treat myself to eyelash extensions as well. The treatment was reasonably priced at just £10 so I thought I had nothing to lose if I didn’t like them.
I hadn’t done any research about eyelash extensions so didn’t know really what the treatment entailed. All I knew is that it was adding false lashes to your natural eyelashes.
When I went into the treatment room I lay down on the bed and closed my eyes for the beautician to start. What I wasn’t prepared for was the extreme burning sensation when the glue was applied to my lashes. My eyes were stinging like mad from the fumes of the glue and I was struggling to try and keep my eyes open for the glue to set. The treatment lasted around 15-20 minutes and the whole time my eyes were stinging and watering.
After the treatment I looked in the mirror and I felt like a clown! The lashes seemed huge and so thick I thought they looked odd. I also wasn’t expecting them to affect my vision so much, that really took some getting used to. After a bit of getting used to I absolutely loved the look of them and it cut time down on my makeup routine not having to do my eyelashes so I was chuffed.
One thing I didn’t realise was actually how much I rub my eyes and not being able to do this was a pain. Trying to wash my face in the shower, taking my makeup off and even applying eyeliner were all made more difficult by having the lashes on as I was having to take extra care around the eye area.
After having them on for a week some of the eyelash extensions started to fall out leaving my lashes with large gaps that just looked ridiculous.
Once all the eyelash extensions had fallen out I was horrified. I was left with gaps where some of the eyelash extensions had pulled my natural eyelashes out and my lashes were so thin they just looked dreadful. I had such nice eyelashes before and I can’t believe I jeopardized them for this cheap treatment! It will probably take months for my eyelashes to grow back and I bet they will never be the same as they were before having eyelash extensions.
I’m NEVER EVER going to get a treatment done again that I know very little about and I’m going to do my research into what can happen if it goes wrong.
Have you ever had a horror beauty treatment? Tell me your tales so I don’t feel as miserable about mine and we can all sulk together.
