On the last Bank Holiday weekend I was invited along to Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Cardiff. I made Gavin book the half day off work so we could both go up and enjoy a meal and drink out together. Neither of us had been to Jamie’s Italian before and seeing as it’s a favourite of Zoe Sugg and Alfie Deyes I was interested to see what they had to offer.
The Super Lunch Menu is a set menu and prices start from £10.95 for two courses or £12.95 for three courses. Being a fairly fussy eater I checked the menu out online before we got there and I was pleased to see some familiar favourites that would suit someone less adventurous with food (someone like me).
Our table was booked for 5pm and for a Friday of a Bank Holiday weekend it was busy but not too crowded. I had already decided what I was having from the menu before I even arrived so the hardest decision for me was what to drink. I opted for a Bellini as I hadn’t actually tried one before.
The starters came out really quickly after we had ordered which was great as I was absolutely starving! I opted for the safe option of garlic bread and Gavin ordered Fritto Misto. The garlic bread wasn’t part of the Super Lunch Menu but I wasn’t feeling brave enough to try any of the other options in case I didn’t like them. The garlic bread was amazing though and wasn’t overly greasy like you sometimes find.
Onto mains and I played it safe again with the ever popular Tagliatelle Bolognese and Gavin opted for the Gennaro’s Chicken Club. Luckily I ordered a side of Spicy Fries as when Gavin’s food arrived it was essentially a chicken burger and definitely wouldn’t have filled him up if he didn’t have a side with it. Our mains were amazing though my bolognese was perfectly creamy just how I like it and I did steal a few spicy fries from Gavin which were really nice.
When I’m out for a meal I don’t normally opt for desert but for £12.95 for three courses it felt rude not too. I chose the Epic Brownie which was 100% EPIC! Gavin opted for the Orange Blossom Polenta Cake. Honestly though the Epic Brownie was incredible and I could have eaten that all over again. The Epic Brownie is a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and caramelised popcorn. Oh god it was so good!
I really cannot thank Jamie’s Italian enough for inviting us along and I will definitely be returning again to make the most of 3 courses for £12.95. Seriously for the quality and amount of food that price seems super cheap to me.
Have you visited Jamie’s Italian before? Where’s your favourite place to go out for a meal?
