ELLE Beauty School with Yves Saint Laurent

ELLE Beauty School with Yves Saint Laurent

On Saturday I was invited to an event with ELLE magazine in the Cardiff Debenhams store. The event was in collaboration with Yves Saint Laurent and ELLE magazine’s beauty director Sophie Beresiner. We got to take part in a one hour beauty masterclass to learn one of Summer’s key beauty looks called ‘Sunstripping’.

ELLE Beauty School with YSL #YouOnTheCover

I hadn’t heard of the term Sunstripping before so I had no idea what the look we were creating was. When we first got there we were colour matched for our correct foundation and shockingly I have never ever had this done by a makeup artist before. Sophie then talked us through the look we were going to create which was a bronzed look with a few fake freckles for a natural summer glow.

We started with the YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer that has these gorgeous light reflecting particles in and almost looks like fairy dust in a bottle. We then got the opportunity to play about with the Touche Eclat Neutralizer pens that come in three correcting shades. I wasn’t entirely sure how to work them so colour correcting will definitely be my project for a rainy day. Onto foundation and I got to try out the Touche Eclat Le Teint, it’s amazing how much of a difference a well matched foundation can do to your look. The colour match was so much better than what I normally wear and I ended up caving in and buying it for myself.

Sunstripping involves using a bronzer in places that the sun would naturally tan you. Most people, including myself, use bronzers on the hollows of the cheeks but that’s not where the sun would naturally tan you. With sunstripping the bronzer is used in a ‘W’ shape beneath the eyes and across the bridge of the nose. It did feel a bit odd using bronzer so high up but it really does give that ‘just caught the sun’ kind of look. Sophie suggested if we were feeling brave to add some fake freckles using eyebrow pencils across the tops of our cheeks. To keep them looking natural use a twisting motion to dot the pencil onto the skin and then hold a finger over it to almost melt it into your skin.

Sun Stripping Beauty Look with ELLE Magazine and YSL

I think Sunstripping is such a wearable everyday look but it does take some getting used to when you’re stuck in your ways like me when it comes to having the same look everyday. It was so much fun to play about with the YSL products as most of them are products I can only dream of affording!

I had such a fun time experimenting with my look and I’m definitely going to try and change things up a bit more with my makeup routine in the future.

What do you think of the Sunstripping look? Are you going to give it a go?
