Don’t Let The Bastards Grind You Down

Don't Let The Bastards Grind You Down

Almost every day within the blogging community there is some sort of drama. I’ve always just been an observer of the chaos unfolding and only commented if the hate is directed towards a Blogger I know. Friday I was the victim of my first ‘nasty’ comment. I’ve been ‘lucky’ so far and haven’t received much hate towards myself or my blog (I don’t like using the word lucky as luck shouldn’t come into whether I receive hate or not). Since I started blogging around a year and a half ago I have always helped other bloggers where I can whether that be graphic design, coding or just general blog maintenance help, the majority of this time the work has been provided free of charge and other times I have asked a very small cost for my time.

Recently on a particular Facebook blogging group I started offering my services for broken link removal and I worked with a lot of bloggers in a very short period of time and consistently had a blog to work on. I was paid for this work but the time I spent doing this did not equate to what I was paid. I was essentially working for very much under minimum wage but that didn’t bother me as I enjoyed helping these bloggers and they were always extremely thankful for the work I had provided and at such a low cost.

Friday however someone commented saying that I was spamming the group with my offers to help others with broken link removal. I was merely offering someone help with something they didn’t understand and I would have done that free of charge purely as a favour to them. A blogger I have never spoken to before felt the need to comment on something that was none of her business just to put me down.

Unfortunately I let the comment affect me and was pretty pissed off by it and went on a Twitter rant to vent my frustration with the blogging community. I also ended up moping about in the house and wasted what could have been a productive blogging day. What the fuck happened to helping each other out? What happened to the nice friendly bunch of people I started into this with nearly 2 years ago? Why is there so much hate?

I’m fucking sick of the bullshit now and anyone who ‘hates’ or writes something negative about me will be instantly blocked. I don’t have time to read your comments and let them affect a whole day of work for me. Take your negativity and shove it up your ass! I find the saying ‘If you’ve got nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all’ to be very appropriate right now.

To anyone who has received any sort of online hate then I recommend you block them from your life. Remove any association with this person. If they haven’t got anything nice to say then they definitely aren’t worth your time or your worry.

I don't understand what went wrong yesterday – there seemed to be so much drama and hate going round online (full moon maybe!). When I get negative vibes from someone I just throw uber positive ones back in their face ๐Ÿ™‚

This is a sad situation, but don't let it affect you and your blog. Some people just feel the need to comment and get involved to make themselves feel better, you're awesome!

That's absolutely appalling! So unnecessary for someone to comment something nasty when you are clearly just attempting to help someone else. I am so sorry you had this experience, but you are brilliant for managing to pick yourself up once you realised how much it had upset you. Keep your head up hun, you're clearly a better person than some in the blogging community!
