My Favourite Ways To Get That Contemporary Look In My Home

My Favourite Ways To Get That Contemporary Look In My Home

I love the contemporary look that show homes have right now. I would love my own home to have all those clean lines and glossy finishes. If you’re looking to remodel or just update your decor, then you might be considering a contemporary finish too. I’ve been looking all over the internet for some of the best ideas to bring this trend into my house.

Living rooms seem to be really modern looking again. It wasn’t that long ago that we were all scrambling for the cottage look. Now it’s high gloss coffee tables in black or white that everyone is trying to find. I always wonder whether the table should sit on the rug or the rug should be placed elsewhere. At the moment, it looks like the contrasting texture of a woolly rug against the smooth finish of the table is key. Pop it on.

The kitchens that I love the most are all high gloss too. I love the handleless, smooth finish. I’m not sure I could bear the extra cleaning of a white panelled kitchen, but black may be quite appealing. Soft close cupboard doors will be ideal the morning after too! I love that everything has a home, so your worktops can all be kept clear of clutter. Storage is definitely key!

I’ve been looking up some gorgeous contemporary chandeliers. It seems you can put them anywhere and they won’t look over the top. I was thinking about having one in the bedroom. This season’s colours of blues and lilacs are so relaxing in the bedroom. I think it will be nice to have a cascading chrome chandelier to look at. The light from those must be beautiful. A bold coloured faux fur rug under my bare feet will go nicely to create a contemporary feel in the bedroom.

I’ve always wanted a really modern bathroom. I would love a gorgeous contemporary tub. I like the freestanding ones that are curved. I might go all out and order mine complete with a jet spa! If only I had the room. Still, I can always dream. One thing I’m keen to change about my bathroom is the shower. I want a walk in shower instead of one over the bath. I’ve been looking at glass shower enclosures and seen how much bigger the room looks with one. That would be ideal in my tiny bathroom.

A contemporary dining set would definitely help set the modern mood in my home. I love the solid wood sets that have been in the stores lately. Some of them look very modern with their stylishly curved chair backs. I think how you dress the table makes the difference to the feel of the room too. Coloured glassware in a vibrant red or blue can help set the tone. A glossy runner and a bold coloured feature wall will help create the contemporary look in here.

I love how the new season brings great ideas for home decor and design. If you’re remodelling this winter, let me know what you’ve done with the place. I can’t wait to get started on my new contemporary look.
