A Guide To Completely Reinventing Your Garage

A Guide To Completely Reinventing Your Garage

Many homeowners don’t appreciate how lucky they are to have a garage. But utilising this space effectively can add a whole new dimension to the property. If you’re lucky enough to have one, rediscovering your love of the area should be top of your agenda over the coming weeks.

Upgrading the garage will make a vast improvement to your home in general. Moreover, the fact you can keep the project secluded from the main property is a huge bonus. If nothing else, it removes the need to rush through the project. This clarity should help you achieve far greater results.

One of the first jobs that you must take on is clearing the space. Let’s face it, we’re all guilty of dumping unnecessary items in the garage. This is the perfect opportunity to get rid of these products. Holding a garage sale could also see you raise some extra funds for completing the future work.

Most importantly, though, you’ll be left with a clean and organised space to work with. Before thinking about the interior, though, you must first concentrate on the exterior. Make sure that walls are in great condition. Moreover, a sectional door will add security and style. Improving these outside areas will make the whole place feel more inviting.

Furthermore, you need to ensure that the garage functions properly. Check to make sure that the electrics work properly. The last thing you want is to make design changes only to find out you still need to fix faults in the location. Don’t worry too much about your heating facilities, though, as a Halogen heater will solve any issues.

Once these foundations are in place, you can start to think about the design transformation. Research is vital at this stage. These tips on general home improvement ideas should aid you in your quest to find the most effective ways to achieve your goals.

Specific changes will be dictated by your decision of how to use the space. For example, a home office is going to be decorated differently to a gym. This is why it’s imperative that you have a concrete vision before starting this work. There’s no point making an upgrade if you’re going to instantly regret it.

Two of the main things you need to consider, though, are light and air. Most garages are not particularly accommodating, so you may want to find ways of improving it. A good A/C system will help with the latter. However, if you’re planning to spend extended time in this area, installing windows is a must.

After all, failing to pay attention to these aspects will result in an uncomfortable zone. Unfortunately, if this happens, you won’t use it regardless of the cool things inside. Make sure adding these basic human requirements is a priority.

Finally, bring a little personality to the room by celebrating your family and passions in life. Doing this will cement the feeling that this is a part of the home rather than a separate entity.

I'm hoping to embark on a project like this in the next year or so! I have… not a garage as there's no road access, more a brick shed in the garden! It's a good size though, so I'm hoping to clear it out, make it a bit more comfortable and warm and get it set up as a playroom for my little one and his friends 🙂
