Are you sick of your small bathroom? Do you wish there was a way you could just open it up and make it a nicer place to be? I’m here to help you! Having a small bathroom can be a pain, but you don’t need to let it bother you for much longer. There are lots of things you can do to make it look bigger and create more space to move. Some of them play a trick on the eye, but others will really create space so you have more room to move! Take a look at my ideas and see what you think:
Use a Large Scale Pattern
This might seem a little silly, but it really helps to trick the eye into thinking the bathroom is bigger than it is. Pick your favourite large scale pattern, and use it all over the bathroom. Use it on the shower curtain, towels, curtains, and anywhere else you see fit. A large pattern like this will not only make your bathroom look bigger, but add an element of fun too! Enjoy experimenting with patterns and see what you can come up with.
Make the Toilet Face the Bath
This won’t always be possible, especially if you want to change up your bathroom with as little hassle as possible. But, if you can, you could change the layout of your bathroom. Making your toilet face the bath rather than having it right next to it can create the illusion of more space. You can even find special small toilets for small spaces if you really need to save space.
A Corner Sink
Again, another layout change if you have the time and money for it. Have a corner sink rather than a sink in the middle of the room. This instantly creates space, especially if you can include storage underneath the sink to tidy up your sides. Cluttered sides are a huge no-no in a small bathroom!
Go for Curved Fittings
Rather than going for standard square fittings, go for curved, smooth fittings. Choose a rounded bath and sink, and you’ll notice more space in the bathroom. Not only that, you make it safer for any young/elderly people who use the bathroom, as they will be less likely to hurt themselves on sharp corners.
Hidden storage is a must if you have a small bathroom. You can’t have cluttered sides, or you won’t be doing it any favours at all! You can hide storage under the sink, bath, or anywhere else you can think of. Use your imagination!
Shower Curtain Over Screen
Although shower screens can look quite cool, you should probably opt for a curtain if you’re short on space. You can tie it back when not using the shower and open the room up more. Also, you can use a large scale print on it as discussed earlier to add to the illusion.
Natural light is an absolute must have in a small bathroom. If your window isn’t very large, consider having a new one put in if possible. If not, change the glass or do anything you can to let more quality natural light in. Natural light always opens up a space, and makes it appear fresher. Artificial light can work sometimes, but natural light is best. It’s also best to do your makeup in, if you usually do it in the bathroom.
A Big Mirror
Your mirror can never be too big in the bathroom. You could even get away with covering the whole wall with a mirror, if you can afford it. If you live with anybody, this will allow you both to get ready at the same time. It can also visually double the size of your bathroom! This is one thing that it’s definitely worth investing in.
Metallic accessories have the same effect as mirrors do, so dot them around where possible. They can add a luxury feel to the bathroom, and more texture too. The more texture in your bathroom, the more three dimensional it will look. Mix fabrics and textures up to create interest as well as make it look larger.
