Finding your unique personal style is one of the best things you can do. Following fashion is all well and good, but what’s the point if you’re not being true to yourself? Your unique personal style will tell people something about your personality. Here are some tips to help you find yours:
Make an Inspiration Board
By making an inspiration board, you will get an idea of what you like and what you don’t like. You can do this with magazines and a big piece of card, or you could even create a scrapbook. Alternatively, you can make a Pinterest board. It’s not as creative but it’s fast and easy and my favourite method! I advise you pick 5 people that you like most in regards to fashion and then choose your favourite outfits. When going shopping, you can look at your Pinterest board to remind yourself of the kind of things you’re looking for.
Find a Reoccurring Theme
When you’re done, find a reoccurring theme in the pictures. What do they have in common? It’s a little bit of homework that will help you to nail down what you like the most. Once you know that, you’ll always look amazing! You’ll feel comfortable and confident, and that’s what you need to do if you want to look your best. Don’t get me wrong; you don’t need to stick to one style or copy one person. You can mix things up. It just makes it easier when you’re shopping!
Consider Things That Suit You Most
There are shapes to suit different body types, and colours that suit different skin tones. There are a whole host of things that will suit you for different reasons. Make sure you consider this when shopping. There are no real rules, but it helps if you bear this in mind.
Sort Out Things You No Longer Wear
Get rid of things you no longer wear or you don’t feel good in. If you don’t feel good in it, it definitely doesn’t belong in your wardrobe. Have a clear out and sell your old clothes or give them away.
Consider Your Lifestyle
Your clothes need to suit your lifestyle too. Looking great is brilliant, but if your clothes don’t suit your lifestyle, you’re not going to have a very good time wearing them. If you’re active, you’ll need to wear clothes more suited to being active. Ideally you want a wardrobe that looks great, suits you and suits the way you live perfectly. If you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for, there are a number of ways you can create your own looks; t-shirt printing, for instance.
When you go shopping, shop smarter. Rather than buying something you’re only going to wear once, buy things you know will interchange with multiple things in your wardrobe. This way you can really get your wear out of items. You’ll save time, hassle, and money. Buy to fill in the gaps of your wardrobe, rather than mindlessly buying things you don’t really need. Yes this is the hardest, especially in Primark but you probably don’t NEED that t-shirt just because it has a unicorn on it.
I’m still really trying to work on my personal style as it’s currently comfy, casual. What would you describe your current style as?
