Today, thousands of people work from home. For many of us, the commute to work is becoming a thing of the past, which is amazing. Whether you are a blogger or other freelancer or work from home for a corporate company, there is one thing you must have – a home office.
If you want to be able to work successfully from home, a home office is crucial. Although you could work from your sofa or table, having an office of your own is much nicer. It allows you to separate your home life from your work life, as, at the end of the day, you can close the door on your work. I personally, feel that this is crucial, as I like to separate my home life from my work life.
The best thing, for me at least, about working from home is being able to design your office how you like. You don’t have to follow any rules like you would if you worked in a traditional office, you can design your office how you like.
To help you create a stylish home office that you love, I thought I would share my top design tips with you, below:
Keep the walls neutral
Although you can paint or wallpaper your home office however you like, keeping them neutral is a good idea. You see, by opting for neutral walls, it will be easier and cheaper to redesign your office should you get bored of the style. Plus, this means that finding accessories for your office will be much easier.
If you don’t like the idea of your office being all white or cream, perhaps you could add an accent wall? This would add a splash of colour to the room, which could be used to brighten up the space and add style.
Opt for hard flooring
If you want to make your office a space that is easy to clean and keep tidy, it’s best to opt for hard flooring. Wood, tile or Amtico flooring is ideal, as it is long-lasting and super easy to clean. At some point or another you are sure to knock over a cup of coffee or spilling ink, so it’s best to opt for flooring that’s easy to clean.
Don’t attempt to do your offices flooring yourself, as this will only end in disaster. Unless you are a flooring specialist, it’s best to leave it to the professionals. Get in touch with a professional carpets and flooring company to see what types of hard flooring they can offer you, and then go from there.
Choose your desk and chair carefully
The two most important things in your office are your office chair and desk, as these are what you will use most. Don’t rush into choosing the designs of these, take your time and browse different sites to get an idea of the options.
When it comes to choosing your desk, the size that you will need will depend on your job. For instance, if, like me, you are a blogger, you will only need enough space for a laptop and notepad for writing ideas on. If, however, you are a designer, you may need enough space for two computers as well as an area for drawing on, so will need a larger desk.
Don’t forget the accessories
When it comes to adding style to your office, accessories are crucial. Things like pillows with quotes on, wall art, and cute candle designs are all ideal for adding style to your home office. To add style to your office, the key is choosing your accessories carefully.
I find that there are two accessories I can’t live without – motivational wall art and a stylish clock. These two things are crucial for me, as they help me to stay motivated and ensure I get my work finished on time.
Designing a stylish office doesn’t have to be tricky, all you have to do is follow the tips and ideas in this guide.
