I find holiday packing the most stressful thing ever. I normally have nightmares a few nights before I go away that I have forgotten something crucial, like my makeup bag or bikinis! Over the last few years of holidaying I have put together a routine that definitely reduces my stress levels and makes me less panicky that I’ve forgotten something. I thought I would share these tips with you and hopefully help someone else out who gets the pre holiday jitters like me.
1. Lists Lists Lists
I always write a list of every single item that I need to pack including what’s going in my hand luggage. I will pack what I can and tick it off. Things like makeup go in last minute so I go through my list and tick them off as I am packing them away. I normally take everything out and do a double check as well because I’m that paranoid I’m going to forget something.
2. Try It On First
I’ve got into the habit now of trying on full outfits before packing them. There’s nothing worse than buying two items and thinking they will look great together and not try them on. I’ve made this mistake in the past and then had a mini meltdown when my outfit wasn’t working out.
3. Essentials Shopping
Don’t leave your toiletries shopping until the airport. I always go a good week in advance and make sure I’ve got things like Shampoo, conditioner, suncreams e.t.c all stocked up. There’s nothing worse than the last minute headless chicken shopping dash to get razors!
4. Passport Checks
Double, Triple, Quadruple check that you have your passport and that it’s in date. An unscheduled trip to the passport office is definitely not what you want to be doing. I’ve heard many, many horror stories about missing passports the day before people are due to go on holiday. That stress is just not needed!
5. Pack a Few Extras
This goes completely against the ‘packing light’ rule but that is sooo not me. Pack a few extra vests or t-shirts as just incases. This always makes me feel a little more chilled out that I haven’t missed anything. I’m the kinda gal who would much rather over pack than under pack. I don’t want to have to be turning my knickers inside out because I didn’t have quite enough pairs packed.
