‘Black Ice’ by Becca Fitzpatrick – No Spoilers

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick* – £6.99

One of my New Years Resolutions for this year was to read more, something I haven’t really been doing very well at to be honest. The only book I’ve actually read this year was ‘Girl Online’ by Zoe Sugg. My resolution was to read at least one book a month. Fail!

I was very excited when this lovely parcel dropped through my letterbox. I normally read very girly ‘chick lit’ books like those written by Sophie Kinsella. I find them easy reads and something I can get stuck into quickly. I thought ‘Black Ice’ sounded like something I would like even though I have never read a thriller novel in my life. I’m really into thriller and crime related television programmes and films so I thought I’m bound to enjoy this book.

Before I read the book I watched the trailer on Youtube. (I actually didn’t know that books have movie-like trailers! I feel so behind on the times.) I really liked watching the trailer though it gave me a good feel for what the book was about. I thought it was better than just reading the blurb on the back of the book. I’m also rubbish at visualising how characters look so to see them depicted in the trailer made my reading experience so much better!

I started reading the book and got through the first two chapters quite quickly. They set the tone of the book so well. You are introduced to the main characters of the book and a character that made me feel very suspicious. By chapter four and five the book really picks up and I found I had to keep reading. It was only my boyfriend turning the light off that made me put the book down. The situation escalates so quickly and I found the pace I was reading at was speeding up. I couldn’t take the words in quick enough.

I found that the theme of the book definitely made the Thriller more realistic. It’s based on a situation that anyone could find themselves in, that’s what kept me reading. I felt for the character and wanted to find out how they would get themselves out of such an awful situation.

For me this was definitely a book that you can just pick up and find your passion for reading again. I’d been in a huge book slump up until Black Ice dropped through my door. I love when you start a book and you just can’t put it down. And for my first ‘Thriller’ themed novel I was completely hooked!

Like I said this review was No Spoilers so if you interested in a book that combines Thriller, Romance and leaves you on the edge of your bed frantically flicking through the pages, then this is the book for you!

Have any of you read Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick? What did you think of the novel? I’d also love some suggestions on what I should read next!
