So super duper late last night I decided that the Blog needed some updating. I wasn’t happy with the header and the side bar so I thought I would give it a bit of a refresh. Following these simple steps you can update and refresh your blog as well.
It’s nice to have some fancy fonts in your blog header but if people can’t read it your blog name won’t be easily remembered. Keep it clean and simple.
So you’ve got a clean looking header that is easy to read but it still needs some character. An easy way to do this is using some colour or patterns in your head but nothing too in your face.
If someone landed on your blog for the very first time you want them to be able to find your contact details easily. Put your contact me page or details somewhere near your header which is the focus point of your blog.
If your sidebar is too busy and full of information people won’t be able to easily look at it. Keep it easy to navigate using headers for each section to split up the information your reader is viewing.
Your blog is an extension of you and when viewers land on your blog for the first time they get a small sense of your character. Make sure your blog has something that stands out and is unique to you.
Make sure your social media buttons are near the top of your sidebar or embedded into your header. People don’t want to go scrolling through pages to find these. If they are easily visible viewers will be more likely to click them.
If you use your blog posts labelling settings correctly you can add categories to your blog for even easier navigation. If you aren’t quite sure what I mean there is a great tutorial over at Xomisse. Definitely worth looking into to organise your blog even more.
These are just a few of my opinions and ideas for you to give your blog a needed refresh.
