Cold Turkey from Sertraline…

I’ve been feeling pretty crappy since Wednesday and it was getting progressively worse. Yesterday I was due to go out with friends to do some shopping and get some lunch. I was up and ready early but whilst I was drying my hair I felt a bit ‘odd’. I don’t really know how else to describe how I felt as I have never ever felt like it before. I just knew something wasn’t right but I put it down to having not eaten and drunk anything so far that morning. My friend came to pick me up at half 11 and as soon as I got in the car I felt extremely sick. The motion of just driving a few feet made me want to throw up. I had a pounding headache and knew something wasn’t right. I managed to make it to the retail park we were going shopping too but ended up having to call my boyfriend to come and get me as I couldn’t stand for long without feeling sick and dizzy. As soon as he picked me up he knew exactly what was wrong. I’d forgotten to order my repeat prescription of Sertraline and was having what is described online as ‘withdrawal symptoms’. I had run out of the medication on Monday and was unable to order a repeat prescription until the Wednesday due to my doctors surgery being closed, it also takes them two working days to process the order so they were not available for collection until Friday! I had gone 5 days without taking the medication!

Once back at home and in bed with a sick bucket and nurofen I did some research on people who had intentionally gone cold turkey from the same medication. I ended up reading posts and posts of horror stories of people who had severe withdrawal symptoms after just a few days off the medication. The symptoms listed were things like having a severe migraine, dizzy spells, feeling nauseous and vomiting, crying spells. I had gone through all of these over the last few days and Friday was the worst!

I think it’s safe to say I’m never going to forgot to order my repeat prescription again. I’ve never felt so ill and helpless like that before. It was absolutely horrific! My boyfriend ended up going to pick up my medication as I couldn’t even drive my car. He is my lifesaver!

I have the boot sale to do today with a friend so I will post about that tomorrow to let you know how I got on!
